Trend Micro WFBS Client Security Agent Will Not Update

I noticed today that my Trend Micro WFBS Client Security Agent has outdated virus pattern definitions. It has been almost a week since they were updated! I tried to manually update on both the server side and the client agent but had no luck. The Client would tell me the update was successful, but the pattern version would remain the same. On the server end when I went to manually update I would receive a HTTP Timeout. My update.log file was alternating between a few different errors including:

ActiveUpdate was unable to connect to the network. Please verify that the network connection is functional<COMMA> and then try again.(28)

and

Your HTTP request has timed out.(26)

The Trend Micro knowledge base is less than helpful… Anyways, it’s a relatively easy fix for any one else having this issue. Heres how I fixed it.

  1. Login to your WFBS server and go to the downloads folder in the PCCSRV folder (usually located at C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\PCCSRV\Download).
  2. Find a file called server.ini and rename it to server.bak
  3. Login to the WFBS web console and go to Updates > Manual
  4. From the list of components to update choose Antivirus and hit Update Now
  5. The WFBS server should now fetch the update files.
  6. Once the updates have been fetched your clients should now update with the new patterns!

I’m not entirely sure what causes this to happen. I found that this solution worked for me after some trial and error. It may work for you, it may not!

  4. Though this procedure works, it does not solve the full problem of the automatic updating happening when it needs to. This merely downloads updates for the time being.

  5. Hi Lane,

Thanks for your solution :) I have been looking ages.

However, I did the steps you mentioned and I still get the HTTP connection timeout message :(

Could you tell me where you found the update.log please?

    Thanks & regards

  6. Ryan – There appears to be mixed results. After I did this on my server the automatic updates worked from then on.

x90syl – Sorry to hear it’s not working for you. You can check out the update.log file in C:/Program Files/Trend Micro/Security Server/PCCSRV/Log/

Perhaps there will be some other indicator of why you are receiving the error in there.

  9. Hi there,

Came across this thread after doing a google search on a similar error I was seeing on a newly installed Trend WFBS 6 (SP2).

For me – I had to add *.trendmicro.com to my trusted sites in IE before it would update!

This was after spending about a week on the phone to Trend Support trying to work out what was wrong!

    Hope that helps someone

    Cheers

    Paul
